Bank confirmations without the seasonal scramble
Confirmation season compresses when treasury holds incomplete signatory lists or when dormant accounts are forgotten until the auditor’s request arrives. A short pre-close checklist keeps replies arriving before reporting deadlines.
Authorisation letters early
Prepare bank authorisation letters in the language and format each institution expects. Japanese banks often require corporate seals and specific account officer routing. Overseas accounts may need English letters on letterhead with board minutes attached.
Map every account
Include escrow, deposit guarantees, and infrequently used foreign-currency accounts. Omissions discovered late force second rounds of requests and delay the cash completeness conclusion.
Follow-up ownership
Assign one person in finance to chase non-responses weekly. Auditors can send second requests, but banks respond faster when the client’s known contact also calls. Record dates of each chase in a shared log so the working papers stay complete.
